Seminar: Adopting Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) as a Profession: Financial Aid & Career Services (FA&CS)—Department of Chemical, Polymer & Composite Materials Engineering (New Campus)
A seminar titled "Adopting Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) as a Profession" was successfully held on Wednesday – October 9, 2024 at the UET, Lahore (New Campus). The event was organized for the Final Year Engineering students under the umbrella of Financial Aid & Career Services (FA&CS), New Campus in collaboration with the Department of Chemical, Polymer & Composite Materials Engineering. Engr. Kashif Ghulam Rasool, the speaker of the seminar is an HSE Consultant, a professional trainer, assessor, and a lead auditor, who has earned various international certifications related to HSE. The seminar was attended by over two hundred participants.
Dr.-Ing. Izzat Iqbal Cheema, convener FA&CS and Director Postgraduate Studies, emphasized on the capacity of MS Safety, Health & Environment program, the only HEC, Pakistan Approved HSE Postgraduate Program. He further explained how participation in such exposures is important for the graduates not only to acquire valuable insights into the diverse pathways available in the HSE but also to underscore this profession and its global demands.
The speaker, Engr. Kashif, provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of the HSE field, emphasizing its growing importance in various industries. Speakers discussed the wide range of career opportunities available in both Pakistan and internationally. These included roles in research, freelancing, business ventures, and entrepreneurship within the HSE domain. He has emphasized on the importance of international certifications and higher qualifications for the students.
Participants were encouraged to pursue further education and professional certifications to enhance their expertise and improve their career prospects in the rapidly expanding HSE sector. The seminar was well-received by students and professionals alike. The closing ceremony was graced by the Campus Coordinator, Prof. Dr. Shahid Imran and Prof. Dr. Syed Mohsin Ali Kazmi, Chairman, Department of Chemical, Polymer & Composite Materials Engineering. An eco-friendly souvenir—the cactus in a table-top planter made of natural material—was presented to the speaker to raise sustainability awareness among the students and its social sensitization.
