Continuation of Industry-Academia Linkages: Faculty and Students from Mechanical Engineering (New Campus KSK) Paid visit at Atlas Honda Manufacturing Unit
Faculty and students from the Mechanical Engineering department at the New Campus KSK recently embarked on a meaningful industrial visit to the Honda Atlas Manufacturing Unit, underscoring the ongoing industry-academia collaborations. Led by Dr. Muhammad Farooq and Dr. Faraz Fazal, the first-year BSc Mechanical Engineering class experienced an enlightening tour of Atlas Honda Limited on April 24th, 2024.
During this visit, students gained firsthand exposure to the inner workings of one of Pakistan's prominent motorbike manufacturers. They explored various departments, including production, assembly, quality control, and research and development, witnessing how theoretical concepts translate into practical applications using cutting-edge technology and machinery. The engagement was warmly welcomed by the HR department at Atlas Honda Limited, reflecting the company's commitment to nurturing partnerships with educational institutions. Technical department heads generously shared their expertise with the students, enriching their understanding of production and innovation processes.
Later in the visit, Dr. Farooq and Dr. Faraz held a closed-door discussion with AHL's senior management. Both parties emphasized the importance of industry-academia collaborations in driving innovation and preparing students for the workforce. Prof. Dr. Fahad Noor, Chairman of the department appreciated the efforts of Prof. Dr. Zahid Anwar, Dr. Muhammad Farooq and Dr. Faraz Fazal for organizing the industrial tour. He also thanked the campus coordinator for the facilitation provided by the campus management. He added that ‘’by fostering partnerships with industry stakeholders, academic institutions gain access to cutting-edge technologies, industry expertise, and resources, while industry partners benefit from fresh perspectives, talent pipelines, and collaborative research opportunities. Ultimately, these synergistic relationships contribute to economic growth, societal development, and the advancement of knowledge across various sectors". Professor Dr. Shahid Imran, Campus Coordinator of New Campus KSK, commended the department's initiative in organizing such educational tours. These tours not only provide students with invaluable practical exposure but also offer insights into the expectations and roles of engineers within the industry."
